‘Turas’ (Irish: ‘Journey’) was a ‘Cross Borders’ funded production written and Directed by Robert Forshaw (with Vignettes writted and devised by Christophe Lombardi & Dorothy Grace Laity) that was performed in Ireland and Northern Ireland.

While the main story of the show took us on a journey through the last ~500 years of Irish history, the vignettes acted as entrescenes set outside of time and space, and saw Zanni and Sandrone comment on the action in the story and relate it back to a zoomed out view of history more generally.

In this Vingette, which occured close to the end of the first act, Zanni has become deeply distressed with the horror of the various genocides to that point, and in the outside current world. To distract, Sandrone hypnotises Zanni to take part in a 1950s style soap advert wrapped in a classic of magic, to pull Zanni out of the despair.

This clip was originally publicity for a UK tour. The version I’ve been passed has some sort of issue with the sound levels that I have wrestled with and have finally admitted defeat. Many apologies.

Extract from ‘A Cream Cracker Under the Settee’ from Alan Bennett’s superb ‘Talking Heads’ series.

When I threw my back out and was stuck on our kitchen floor for over a week, having a fairly awful time – despite taking as much pain medication as I was able, I was challenged by a social media friend & fellow actor (Thanks again, Charles!) to film this extract to pass the time, and to: “Keep your hand in”.
